OUR HISTORY

Revival Legacy Timeline

This building was born in 1899! Originally constructed alongside 922 as part of one block. It housed a barbershop run by W.E. Denison - an African-American entrepreneur - and a restaurant on the other side.

The building transformed into a dry cleaning hub, home to United Dry Cleaning, later acquired by Wooten's, and finally Sunshine Cleaners--named through a community contest. Locals still remember Estelle Karnes and Chester Cato, the dynamic duo behind the business.

Following the fire, the space quickly regained its buzz. Local entrepreneur N. Sayed opened a shop offering candy, drinks, cigars, and vintage treasures--a sweet retreat for the community. Around the same time, Richardson & Huggins Paint Company set up shop, adding a splash of color and new life to the block. The building was once again a lively mix of flavor and function.

1997-2005

Mrs. Betty Roberts purchased 924 Front Street. She had been in the hairdressing business in Georgetown since 1971, and moved her salon. La Sheek Beauty Salon, from 917 Front Street to the new location. Mrs. Roberts later rented the building to Blakely Altman, who operated Sweetgrass Spa there until late 2023. Sweetgrass Spa now operates at 417 Screven Street.
